Eight Bells on Cathead Bay: Lake Michigan Vacation Rental, Leelanau County
Eight Bells is located at the "Tip of the Little Finger" of the Leelanau Peninsula on Lake Michigan.
Leelanau is a Native American word for "land of delight". Eight Bells is in close proximity to all that Northern Leelanau County has to offer, including outdoor recreational and entertainment opportunities. One of Cathead Bay's attractions is the beautiful 1350-acre Leelanau State Park, including the coastal dunes and beaches where Petoskey stones, a fossil that is the Michigan state stone, can be found. The northern portion of the park includes the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, which was built in 1852 and now has a museum. An 8.5-mile hiking and skiing trail winds its way through the park and has sections leading to views of Cathead Bay and to the beach. Eight Bells is north of the village of Northport, which includes a fine harbor and park, grocery and other stores (restaurants, antiques and art galleries). The hills around Northport are filled with cherry and apple orchards. Close by are the attractions of Suttons Bay, Leland, Glen Arbor, and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (see Leelanau links page).
