Winter Wedding in Domaine du Baron – Lake Montriond
Why did you decide to get married in the Rhone-Alpes?
We love the Alps and moved to Morzine this year to start a life full of skiing, mountain biking and climbing!
How did you find the venue and why did you choose it?
Our wedding planner, Pauline from Alp Events, suggested the venue after we said we wanted to get married at lake Montriond. We fell in love with it as soon as we saw it!
What type of ceremony did you have?
We had our friend Angus perform a very short outdoor ceremony. It would have been far too long for lots of long speeches and readings. We just wanted to say our vows and exchange our rings out in the snow. The best surprise was some people playing ice hockey on the lake behind us, Alastair is an ice hockey player so lots of the guests thought we had arranged it!
Please tell us about your wedding dress and accessories?
My wedding dress was from an amazing charity organisation called ‘Friends of the Animals.’ They are based in the UK and last year a patron of the charity donated her entire stock of dresses from her bridal boutique before she retired. All proceeds from the dress sales went towards helping re-home and treat dogs in need. The dress was the about the 25th I tried and I just loved everything about it. It was simple and perfect for a snowy winter wedding.
What inspired the choice of fashion and accessories for the groom?
We wanted a suit to match the colour scheme of navy and burgundy, Alastair’s suit was chosen by a tailor in London and it was better than we could have imagined.
Was there a theme for the wedding party fashion?
No real theme, just to dress warm and comfortable! A lot of our guests are seasonnaires who might not have a suit with them in resort so we wanted everyone to be comfortable.
What were your thoughts behind the flowers – bouquet, button holes, centrepieces etc?
Lots of white, some winter green with splashes of red to match the bridesmaids! We wanted winter, but not too Christmas-sy.
Describe any DIY elements?
Our wedding planner Pauline made lots of DIY elements, our place settings, the groomsmen buttonholes, all of the signs and seating plan! Jane made the cake topper for the wedding cake from two pine cones.
Describe the food?
We had a number of canapés for the vin d’honneur, salmon, beef, avocado and some others. The main meal was veal followed by a fruit salad platter and lots of cakes!
How did friends and family help with the planning?
Jane’s parents picked a dried all of the eucalyptus leaves for the confetti. Friends and family gave endless support throughout the whole thing, it’s hard to pick just one thing!
What music and entertainment did you choose and why?
We had a number of performances from Jane’s sister and a couple of other good friends during the drinks reception. After the meal we had The Buskers perform for the dancing. Our focus was on getting people dancing and having fun, we also had lots of party games for guests around the room.
What events and moments made your day special?
Seeing everyone in France just to celebrate with us, the speeches, the first dance, all of the amazing messages afterwards.

We loved the style of the work we saw on your website, it was exactly what we were looking for. We also liked that you had worked at weddings at our venue before so would know the best locations for photos etc!
Do you have any advice to other brides on planning their day?
Relax, don’t let one day get in the way of the rest of your life. I had laryngitis for my wedding day and it could have ruined everything if I had let it, but the love and support from our family and friends and each other made the day unforgettable.
